Our ophthalmologists, professionals dedicated to your visual health

Our ophthalmologists welcome you every day to our eye health centers, where they will take the time to see you and answer all your questions.

What is the role of the ophthalmologist? The ophthalmologist is the leading specialist in ocular pathologies and visual function:

  • The ophthalmologist corrects visual defects - myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, presbyopia - sometimes by prescribing glasses or contact lenses, sometimes by surgical techniques.
  • It detects any eye pathology, whether at an early or advanced stage, and adapts its follow-up and treatment according to its importance.
  • He takes the time to welcome each patient. He answers their questions and doubts, then makes sure that he has correctly transmitted all the information concerning their treatment (prescription / treatment / optician, etc.).

Orthoptist - Klarity

Orthoptists are paramedical health professionals specializing in the eye. When working in an ophthalmology center, the orthoptist's role is initially to detect and explore the patient's visual function. During a consultation in one of Klarity's centers, orthoptists work in coordination with ophthalmologists to provide them with all the measurements they need to follow up the consultation - eye pressure, refraction, visual acuity (vision measurement), ocular imaging - thanks to a host of state-of-the-art machines.

The orthoptist can also intervene at a later stage, if necessary, to carry out complementary examinations (visual field, for example), orthoptic assessments/rehabilitation and contactology.
Finally, the orthoptist works with children to re-educate and rehabilitate their visual function at an age when cerebral plasticity can produce convincing results (amblyopia, strabismus).

How does an ophthalmology consultation work?

As soon as you arrive at our Klarity ophthalmology health centers, our medical secretary will take charge of you. He/she will collect your contact details and the reason for your consultation in order to compile your patient file.

You will then begin your consultation with one of our orthoptists, who will take the first measurements mentioned above.

You will then be seen by a second orthoptist, who will carry out a detailed medical history (your medical background, family history...) and a refraction (measurement of your eyesight). Together, you will then agree on the best possible visual acuity and, above all, the best refractive comfort - i.e. the correction with which you are most comfortable.

The consultation continues with an ophthalmologist, who performs all the examinations required to detect or investigate the specific pathology indicated or diagnosed. The consultation may end with a dilated fundus examination.

At the end of this consultation, the ophthalmologist will be able to state his findings and issue the necessary prescription, whether optical or medicinal. He then takes the time to answer any questions you may have, and makes sure that the next steps in your treatment (prescription / treatment / optician, etc.) are perfectly clear.

On leaving the examination room, you will be taken back to our secretary for payment and to arrange any future appointments. You can fill in a satisfaction questionnaire to help us improve your experience. The secretary will give you the invoice for the procedures carried out by the ophthalmologist and/or orthoptist.

Good to know: you don't have to go through your GP to see an ophthalmologist for a prescription for glasses or to prevent eye problems.

If surgery or hospitalization is required, you will be referred to a hospital with a detailed letter from an ophthalmologist.

Here are the emergencies for which you should urgently and immediately go to the CHU:

  • Acute permanent pain,
  • Sudden onset of double vision,
  • Sudden drop in visual acuity, with normal eye or red eye,
  • Amputation of the visual field,
  • Direct foreign body trauma with laceration of the eyeball or palpebral surface, chemical splash, etc.

If you're in any doubt about the urgency of the situation, don't hesitate to give us a call.
